Kelsey's Painting

Q. How did you think of the idea of doing this painting?

A. As far as why I did it and how... hmm well I was taking a family history class at the time and I believe I got the photo in an e-mail from my mom or I stumbled on it in your blog. I thought it was such a fun picture that when we were told to be creative with our final I thought what a great painting it would make.

Q. What procedure did you use?

A. As far as the procedure I used, if I can remember, I used some washes over the initial sketching and started out with a wet and wet method, I moved to dry when I put in the details and I sprinkled salt on the grass wash for texture.

Wet and wet basically means that you apply pigment while the paper is still moist, and then dry is just the opposite, applying pigment to dry paper. There are different names for the process but I feel like those are the most straight forward.

Watercolor, which is probably the least forgiving, as in hardest to control, are the most gentle medium, as it doesn't require toxic substances and rarely stains.  Kelsey
